Hoke's...clever comedy...serves as a smart commentary on technology's constant intrusion into the social sphere.

- Colin Dobkowski,

Buffalo News

Contrasting superficial Facebook minutia with efforts to communicate some emotional truths, the conversation in 'Face Time' was sharp, tart, funny, and uncomfortable.

- Judith Reynolds,

Durango Herald

One of the most effective pieces addressing our society’s obsession with smart phones and social networking is 'Face Time' by Donna Hoke. In just ten minutes, this well-written scene impressively tells a full and complete story of two old high school friends catching up while waiting in line. Stellar performances by Jessica Kaye Temple and Femi Long keep audiences entertained while the two women “reconnect”—one actually making the effort (Temple), the other constantly and cheerfully being interrupted by her phone (Long). The stark difference between the two women’s personalities is one of the audience’s main sources of amusement, as it becomes progressively clear how bitter and unhappy Temple is, and how Long fails to notice or connect with anything she is saying in the conversation (instead being distracted by pictures of a stranger’s cute dog). The social commentary of these smart phone pet peeves and the inability to truly communicate is easy to swallow in this fun, not-preachy package.
